Research

The scientific and research activities of the Research Institute for Labour and Social Affairs include both basic and applied research. The Institute’s scientific research is concerned primarily with three specific fields. Firstly, issues surrounding ​​work, including employment policy issues, the labour market, the development of human resources, income and wage policy issues, working conditions, social dialogue and collective bargaining. Secondly, social issues, i.e. research into pensions and health insurance, state social support and social assistance, family policy and equal opportunities, demographics, the evolution of social structures, living conditions and living standards. Thirdly, the full range of issues surrounding occupational health and safety, applying knowledge obtained from the natural, technical and social sciences. Occupational health and safety research focuses on verifying and applying methods and approaches in the area of the prevention of risks in the working environment and on improving well-being at work and the quality of working life.

The Institute enjoys close cooperation with state and local government bodies, trade union and employer organisations, universities and other scientific and research institutions both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
