The various departments of the Research Institute for Labour and Social Affairs include the Department of Library and Information Services, the priority activity of which is to collect, process and make available information on issues surrounding the labour market, employment, social policy, social protection, family issues, statistics, economics, sociology and other related fields.
The core of the department comprises a specialist library that provides comprehensive library and information services. The library collection was built up with the requirements of the Institute’s research activities in mind and currently includes over 21 500 items. Access to professional periodicals and other specialised documents is available in the library.
The library primarily serves the needs of RILSA’s researchers; however, its services are also available to students and the professional public – the loan of publications must be arranged in advance (via e-mail). Pre-ordered items are issued at a pre-arranged time in the library study room. It is also necessary to order in advance if you wish to visit the library for study purposes.
The library provides an inter-library loan service to all libraries via the Comprehensive Catalogue of the Czech Republic, or on the basis of written requests.
The library employs the TRITIUS library system – an online catalogue is available to users on the RILSA website. The older part of the library collection, acquired before 1994, is currently available only in the book catalogue. A separate database is maintained for the so-called Social Policy Gold Collection – a catalogue of historically and professionally significant publications that reflect the origin and development of Czech and (previously) Czechoslovak social policy.
The library has computers and internet access and provides photocopying services.
The operation of the library is governed by the lending regulations (see PDF).
