Research on the attractiveness of the discipline of social work for students of secondary, tertiary professional schools and universities and research on the professional competence and personal prerequisites necessary for the performance of social work
In the context of the Czech Republic’s social policy, and as a response to society-wide requirements, there is a growing demand for social work. Currently, the availability of field social work services is insufficient to meet client demands, a problem that is being exacerbated by the decrease in the number of students opting to study social work subjects. At the same time, it is necessary to address the minimum level of education of social workers in all fields based on which, according to currently valid legislation, social workers can obtain the professional qualifications necessary for them to practice their professions. Naturally, while the quality of social work depends on the educational qualifications of social workers, the personal conditions of social workers also influence the provision of social work. The project deals with both these topics, i.e. the attractiveness of studying social work subjects for potential applicants and the support of the professional competences and personality prerequisites necessary for the provision of social work through qualification studies. The project includes the conducting of extensive qualitative and quantitative fieldwork. Based on the analysis of the knowledge obtained of the career decision-making process through the field research of students at secondary and higher professional schools and social and humanities universities and the information provided by social workers across the various fields involving social work in the Czech Republic, recommendations will be formulated with respect to the qualification education of social workers and to increasing the attractiveness of social work. The project outputs will form the basis for the creation and development of qualification education, the attainment of which will form a prerequisite for the performance of social work professions and also for the identification, support and deepening of the various key personality prerequisites that are essential for the effective performance of social work.
