Description:

The aim of the project, which concerned the use of electronic versions of sick leave notice, was to gather information on the implementation of such systems in selected European countries and to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how the various issues should be addressed. The selected countries consisted of the United Kingdom, Poland, Austria, France, Lithuania, Sweden and Estonia and, from outside the EU, Norway. All of these countries have already introduced electronic sick leave notice systems and, in some cases, the use of the system is mandatory for doctors or is expected to become so in the near future, and in other cases the system is used on a voluntary basis and runs in parallel with traditional paper sick notes. It is anticipated that the analysis will provide a picture of how individual countries have approached the implementation of electronic sick leave notice systems and what options and benefits these systems offer.
