Description:

The project focuses on the perceptions of individuals in pre-retirement age regarding the pension system and on the mismatch between planned and actual retirement from the labour market into old-age pension. The main objective is to describe and quantify the differences between expected and actual timing of retirement, identify their causes, and determine which groups exhibit the most pronounced discrepancies, including through international comparison.
The research responds to the need to better understand how knowledge of pension system rules, expectations about financial circumstances in retirement, and other factors (such as health status, family situation, and working conditions) influence retirement decisions.
The findings will be interpreted in relation to pension policy and employment/active ageing policy. The project will contribute to a stronger evidence base for policymaking by helping to better target measures and communication strategies aimed at reducing the gap between expected and actual retirement behaviour and strengthening household preparedness. The results will be useful for the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA) as well as for the broader expert community.
