Biography

Tomáš Sirovátka graduated in sociology and political economy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the J. E. Purkyně University (today Masaryk University, Brno). In 1991, he joined the Faculty of Economics and Administration of the Masaryk University as a researcher, where two years later he received his candidate of sciences degree; he was awarded an assistant professorship in 1997. From 1993 to 1994, he held the position of vice-dean. He worked at the Faculty of Economics and Administration until 1998, when he moved to the newly established Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University. From 1998 to 2000, he headed the Department of Social Policy and Social Work and from 2000 to 2005, he headed the Institute for Social Issues. From 2004 to 2008, he was vice-dean at the FSS Masaryk University. Since 2001, he has been the head of the Brno branch of the Research Institute for Labour and Social Affairs (RILSA). In 2003, he was appointed professor. His main research interests include social policy, the labour market, unemployment and issues surrounding social exclusion. His research focuses on the field of ​​employment policy and its connections with other areas of social policy and comparative studies of social policy and its broader connections. He is currently a member of the scientific council of the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, the scientific council of the Faculty of Public Policy of the Silesian University in Opava, the editorial board of Acta Oeconomica Poznaneinsia (Economic University, Poznań), the editorial board of Sociology of Thought and Action (Vilnius University), the chairman of the editorial board of the Social Policy Forum, and a member of the Council and Programme Committee of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Institute for Social Law. Since 2007, he has been a member of the European Social Policy Network, a network of independent experts at the European Commission, which compiles regular reports on the situation in the field of social policy in individual EU countries and their comparison.
