Instruments for adapting society to an ageing population with particular reference to gender
The trend of the increasing average age of the population is exerting impacts on a range of social aspects, the most important of which concern the employment, health and social security of the elderly. The gender aspect deserves particular attention since women are generally more at risk of poverty in old age due to lower lifetime earnings than men and more frequent career interruptions to care for dependent household members. The combination of the multiple barriers that exist and the limited potential remediation mechanisms with respect to older women in terms of remaining in the labour market requires the use of specific and inter-connected measures. The project will focus primarily on the development of the competences of the target group in the labour market and consultancy services. Both the quantitative and qualitative findings will assist in determining how to strengthen these competencies and how the impacts of this approach will be significant in terms of the various factors that represent obstacles for the target group to remaining in the labour market.
