OSH
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is an interdisciplinary field encompassing requirements, measures, instruments, and methods that contribute to establishing working conditions that safeguard employees’ health and maintain their working capacity. Its objective is not only to create safe working conditions, but also to ensure their observance throughout the work process. To achieve this aim, it employs, in accordance with advances in science and technology, methods and knowledge derived from related disciplines in the technical, social, and economic sciences. It draws upon their results, synthesizes them, and further develops and applies them in practice.
The Institute develops and operates a range of factual, bibliographic, and information systems in the field of OSH. It serves as a specialized body for the prevention of major industrial accidents (in particular the assessment of safety documentation) and carries out educational, awareness-raising, and promotional activities. In addition, it provides advisory, consultancy, and expert services, and prepares analyses in the areas of ergonomics and workplace risk assessment.
