Occupational risk prevention and ergonomics
The specialist facility for occupational risk prevention and ergonomics ensures, and is primarily responsible for, research and professional activities that arise from the concept of research and development in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH). The facility also provides services for commercial entities in the fields of risk prevention, industrial safety, ergonomics and occupational psychology, and is involved in educational, training and consulting activities in the aforementioned areas.
The facility focuses on the following:
“Classic” occupational safety and health, including for example:
- occupational risk analysis aimed at identifying potential hazards (noise, excessive dust, working at heights, mobile machines, working position, etc.), the assessment of risks, the drawing up of preventive measures, the compilation of documentation;
- the assessment of working conditions and working environments – the measurement of environmental factors, the assessment of personnel workloads, the determination of compliance with hygiene limits, advice on the adjustment of conditions;
- the ergonomic design of work environments and job positions – the analysis of work activities and positions, the design of work environment modifications including the appropriate dimensions and layout, the minimisation of excessive loads, the design of suitable furniture and tools, the consideration of cognitive and sensory ergonomics, the design of work regimes and the prevention of unnecessary movement;
- the assessment of reliability and human error in the performance of specific activities – the analysis of work tasks, the identification of risk factors, recommendations for changes;
- consultancy in the field of OSH, the prevention of accidents and unfavourable incidents, including the various environmental aspects and for the purposes of the so-called Safe Enterprise programme;
- the modelling of the reach of harmful concentrations of hazardous chemical substances in the air;
- the preparation of company guidelines to ensure OSH and the operation of the OSH system in companies;
- consulting services with concern to compiling instructions for application in the field of ensuring occupational safety and the drawing up of operating regulations and rules for production facilities;
- projects on, and the introduction of, safety markings in production facilities;
- comprehensive risk prevention, OSH and fire prevention services;
- the monitoring of the status and development of OSH and other aspects concerning employment.
Analyses and forecasts, including for example:
- the analysis of the causes of occupational accidents;
- the forecasting of the development of selected indicators of the level of OSH and employment dependent upon economic and social changes;
- the creation of tools to support the implementation and enforcement of occupational health and safety policy in small, medium and large companies;
- expert services with concern to occupational health and safety.
Nanosafety, including for example:
- research and professional services focusing on the protection of health from exposure to nanomaterials/nanoparticles in the work environment;
- the measurement of nanoparticle concentrations in the work environment, analysis of the results of measurements and proposals for the implementation of measures to limit the exposure of workers;
- the evaluation of the physical-chemical behaviour of nonwoven textiles used in personal protective equipment (e.g. respirators);
- the analysis of the release of nano and microplastics into the environment, including from the viewpoint of potential toxicity.
