Biography

Jiří Vala earned his doctorate at the Institute of Environmental Engineering (Faculty of Mining and Geology, VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava, 1999). He has extensive experience in occupational safety and health, gained both through his long-term work in industrial enterprises (primarily in metallurgy) and at the State Labour Inspection Office, where he served as an OSH inspector specializing in OSH management systems, prevention of major industrial accidents, and the chemical industry. He also coordinated European campaigns, participated in EU working groups, and contributed to evaluations of labour inspection systems in EU member states. Between 2014 and 2018, he lectured at the Department of Occupational and Process Safety (Faculty of Safety Engineering, VŠB–TU Ostrava). Since 2018, he has been working at the Occupational Safety Research Institute, now RILSA, where he specializes in OSH and related topics such as quality management systems and corporate ecology.
