Umut Ünal, Ph.D.

Umut Ünal holds the position of Head of the Macroeconomic Analyses department at the Research Institute for Social and Labour Affairs (RILSA). He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Florida International University in 2012. His diverse academic career includes roles as a lecturer at Florida International University and as faculty at various universities. His research focuses on macroeconomics, with an emphasis on empirical applications. Dr. Unal’s papers have been published in reputable international journals such as Regional Studies, Kyklos, and Empirical Economics. His research has received funding, with his dissertation sponsored by FIU’s Dissertation Year Fellowship for Ph.D. students who excel in writing their doctoral dissertations. While working at Philipps-Universität Marburg, he was funded by a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Philipp-Schwartz-Initiative, awarded to scholars with significant research and teaching skills. Additionally, his research has been supported by the German State Fund (Ministry of Science and Arts) for highly qualified scientists. He was honored with the “2023 McGraw-Hill/Irwin Distinguished Paper Award” at the 50th anniversary meeting of the Federation of Business Disciplines conference in Houston, TX, USA.
